You Won’t Find These Olive Garden Dishes in Italy. Similarly, you may wonder who founded Olive Garden.Ĭurtis Dayton is an American actor. In 1982, the first Olive Garden debuted in Orlando, and by 1989, the chain had grown to 145 sites. Is it also worth knowing whether Olive Gardens is a privately held company? Unlike most chain restaurants, which began as a single, privately owned restaurant that expanded naturally over time, Olive Garden was founded with the goal of establishing a large franchise.
was founded by General Mills in 1995 and currently controls the restaurant business. Within seven years, the company had grown to almost 150 locations, with a cult following for its breadsticks. The Olive Garden was the first Italian restaurant of its type in Orlando. Why is it named Olive Garden, then, when all of this is taken into account? In 1995, all of General Mills’ restaurant assets were split off into a separate company called Darden, named after Red Lobster founder Bill Darden (which was itself sold off in July 2014). The name of the restaurant comes from the olive trees that were planted on the property by founder Joe Bastianich and his brother Mario, who originally planned to make it into an Italian-style grocery store. I'll be back.Olive Garden is a restaurant chain that was founded in Orlando, Florida. Is OG anything other than a chain serving Italian fare that is similar at every location? No, but it is still pretty decent especially for the Midwest Italian palate of overly sweet tomato sauces.
Anthony provided both of us with take home clamshells for what we didn't eat. I went with a meat sauce on the second helping that was much better. Mine was good, but the marinara was very plain. She was pleased with hers other than the chicken was cold. My wife had the chicken alfredo refillable offering and I did the same with an angel hair, Italian sausage and marinara. It's easy to overdo the salad and breadsticks before entrees arrive. The salad dressing is a very good Italian style and the breadsticks are well seasoned and garlicky. OG's unlimited salad and breadsticks are really very good. Very personable, accommodating and quick with advise on menu items. We waited in the bar and took advantage of their happy hour. We visited Olive Garden on a mid-week evening and had to wait 15 minutes for a table. I'm not a big fan of national chains for anything other than a fast food burger.
